Case Study No.1 Case Study No.2 Case Study No.3 The Franciscan Abbey in Multyfarnham was founded in 1268. The Church was unroofed from 1651 to 1827. A new Friary was built in 1839. A seraphic College was opened in 1899, which became an Agricultural College in 1956. The Franciscan Brothers have continued to uphold the standard of this remarkable building and its grounds complete with life-size Stations of the Cross. In 1999, Omnilux Ireland set out to open new doors in the market of Electronic Votive Shrines. We would build Electronic Votive Shrines to the specification of the requirements of each individual Church and Client. No more did this come to the fore when we were invited to offer designs for the changeover from live to electronic candle-stands at Multifarnham. Something very special would obviously be required! We started by designing several line drawings, which would later become scale models and ultimately a full size model of the chosen candelabra. It would be presented in situ for the final adjustments. The candelabra was to fit on an Altar of a Shrine to Saint Anthony. The dimensions must be perfect. It would be handmade in wrought iron, which on completion would leave no room for errors or indeed adaptations. Another challenge we had to overcome was the fact that there were also 5 small candle-holders - each holding some 8 candles - cemented into the original stone walls. How could these beautiful old candle-holders be converted without damaging the holders or for that matter the building? It was suggested that they were cut out of the walls with an angle grinder and after completion bolted back into place. Or alternatively cut out of the wall and than cemented back into place. There were other suggestions, but Omnilux Ireland seriously contemplated only one idea: We would convert the candle-holders in situ. Over a period of 2 days Omnilux Ireland carried out this conversion in the church. This included sanding and re-painting the candle-holders, fitting the nylon candles (which were specially manufactured to size), and last but not least installing all the electronics. This was done in a manner, that none of the electronics were visible.A nylon box was installed at the base of each Statue, which contained the power supply and circuitry. Visit our Multyfarnham pages In our relatively short time in business we have endeavoured to offer advice and originality in every project Omnilux Ireland has encountered. We are proud of the fact that we do not offer everyday off the shelf work. We are aware that every situation is different, just as is every church, just as is every Priest. Omnilux Ireland is looking forward to being of service to you in the future, and to every challenge you may present to us. Case Study No.1 Case Study No.2 Case Study No.3 |
